Mike’s Fish Tank – Frogs & Salmonella

Posted by  //  November 15, 2011  //  Articles, Mike's Fish Tank

I recently received an email from the CDC concerning underwater frogs and salmonella.

Here is what they said. Like many animals and foods, frogs may carry salmonella bacteria which can cause illness.

People with pet frogs should follow these safety precautions:

Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling anything, including water that comes in contact with
water frogs.

Always keep your pet frogs, the frog’s habitat and water from the habitat, out of the kitchen or anywhere food is
kept, prepared or eaten.

Don’t allow young children to handle frogs, or any reptile or amphibian pet, without adult supervison. Always assist young children in thoroughly washing their hands when coming in contact with these pets or habitats.

For more information about enjoying your pets safety, visit:

Also remember, that land frogs such as firebelly toads or just toads found outside also fall into this underwater frog
cautions.
