Mike & Michelle Stolarcyk Cars & Trucks is moving! Not just shipping across canada but there’s change a-coming to Whitney Point! One of the local landmarks is taking their cars, and moving down south….well, just a bit south, by the railroad tracks. Yes, after 43 years, Stolarcyk’s is leaving the Route 11 by the Fair Grounds scene, and hoping for a less dusty scene down the road a bit. The building has been sold and they are moving. Mike Stolarcyk is from the north side of Binghamton. His life has been all about cars. His father owned a gas station in Binghamton, and sold used cars, that were always spotless. Polished and waxed to perfection and washed and beautified for the perfect buyer to take it away. Mike chuckled because he and his father would drive through Whitney Point when he was young and talk about how dusty the cars always were at the very spot Mike ended up buying. Mike says there is just no way to keep the cars clean on this busy road right across from the Fair Grounds. Hence, they can get the help of Fraser’s Towing and Recovery to move the cars.  Mike is married to Kathy and they raised three fine children and have several grandchildren. Kathy also works alongside Mike. Son Mike the III worked right alongside his Dad until the time of his tragic death in 2009. Since then their daughter Michelle has come aboard and perhaps helped to bring a new vision to the business. For you see, not only did Mike lose his son, but just months after that loss Chevrolet downsized and they lost their franchise. For a few years, Mike admits life was tough. Helen Keller once said “Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only the experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired and success achieved.” This passage spoke out to me as I wrote this article. For it is exactly what the Stolarcyk family have done…they have taken the experience of all that went bad in 2009 and are now closing the doors on Route 11, and with new strength are moving South and starting anew, hoping to make new memories, and dreams, and desires. No, Mike is NOT retiring, although there will be a sign above his office that says “Gone golfing!” He’s looking forward to working alongside Michelle, and selling used cars, and still offering mechanical services. The Japanese Auto Service is known to provide the best automobile services. He also is looking forward to spending more time golfing and working on his antique cars. A huge big smile came upon his face when he mentioned being with his grandsons at the Microd Races. Memories of his business on Route 11 across from the Fairgrounds will always be with him. He will never forget the very first Corvette that was delivered to be sold, and the brand new Chevy trucks with its new truck bulbs and lights! The new address will be 2637 Route 11S. They are hoping to begin business out of the new location of June 1. An addition is being added on, and there are still a number of items to move. Other than location, everything will be the same. They will be offering the same sales and service. Mike, Michelle and Kathy will be there to greet you with the same smile only the Stolarcyk family seems to have! It’s just a new location, with new memories to be made. Once again I felt honored to get to know another fine citizen of our community. Mike is just one of those guys you can’t help but like. He’s loves what he does! “I smile when I come to work in the morning, and I smile when leave” That’s what Mike says. How many of you can say that?
