Today is All That Matters – ‘Opinions vs Questions’

Posted by  //  September 11, 2018  //  Articles, Today is All that Matters

All human beings are wired to connect. We crave the nourishment that kind and uplifting connections afford us, and it is the antidote to the affliction of loneliness that is become a significant health rush in our nation today.

One of the simplest ways to connect with anyone, regardless of how well you think you know someone – or don’t know them at all – is to ask insightful questions. Typically we share our opinions and beliefs back and forth, which certainly ‘can’ connect us with others when we already are in effortless agreement with one another. However, what about when we don’t agree or we simply don’t know one another that well?

The Art of asking insightful Questions is a life skill that can truly change the extraordinary potential of your relationships. Often, we ask ‘Why’ questions. Why questions are not actually that easy to answer. Many times we don’t initially know the answer to that without deeper contemplation. However, Questions that connect us with one another would sound like;

  • ‘What did that experience teach you?’
  • ‘What did you learn about yourself from that experience?’
  • ‘Who or What did that interaction/person remind you of?’

These simple questions have the capacity to deeply connect you and the speaker in a very heartfelt way. Insightful Questions allows others to access their own wisdom inside and to share it with you, without interruptions or opinions in return.

Opinions divide, yet Questions connect. Test it for yourself, in your Relations. Offer them gently and safely, with warm eyes, a soft smile, and an open mind.
