Did you know that after you exercise whether training for a marathon, a long bike ride or any sports practice the best way to replenish your body is with chocolate milk? Hi, I am Hannah Baker and I am the Tompkins County Dairy Princess. Yes, it’s true the best way to refuel your body after exercise is chocolate milk. Compared to plain milk, water, or sports drinks, chocolate milk has double the carbohydrate and protein content that is needed to help your body recover. The high amount of carbohydrates help your muscles refuel and rebuild after strenuous exercise. Chocolate milk has a high water content that helps replace the fluids lost from sweat, but it also contains calcium, protein, vitamins A, B12, and D, riboflavin, potassium, niacin, and phosphorus. These nutrients are essential for your body to function normally. Calcium, phosphorus and Vitamin D help build strong bones. Vitamin A helps your vision, skin, and immune system. Vitamin B12 gives your body energy and helps your brain and nervous system. Potassium helps regulate blood pressure and body fluids. Riboflavin helps your body process other nutrients for energy. Niacin helps rid your body of toxins and maintain good cholesterol levels. Chocolate milk also contains smaller amounts of sodium and sugar compared to sports drinks .But the most important reason to have chocolate milk after exercise is that it tastes so good! After the next time you exercise make sure you remember to grab a delicious and very nutritious glass of chocolate milk!!
