Halloween is all fun and games until your skin pays the price. From heavy face paints to stubborn glitter, costume makeup can clog pores, trigger breakouts, and throw your skin barrier into chaos. The good news? You can still slay your spooky look without sacrificing your glow.
Start by prepping your skin like you would for any event: cleanse, exfoliate gently, and layer on a lightweight moisturizer or primer to create a barrier between your skin and makeup. This not only helps your look last longer but also prevents pigments and waxes from sinking into your pores.
When shopping for Halloween products, look for non-comedogenic, fragrance-free, and water-based formulas since these are less likely to cause irritation or breakouts. You can also use your regular makeup to achieve fun effects. A smudged eyeliner makes a perfect “zombie” eye, and a red lipstick can double as fake blood. No need to buy low-quality costume paint from the dollar store.
And when the night’s over, don’t just crash into bed! Double cleanse: first with an oil-based cleanser to melt away heavy makeup, then with a gentle cleanser to remove residue. Follow with a hydrating toner and a soothing moisturizer to calm your skin back down.
Remember, glowing skin is the best costume of all.
