Gratefulness

To understand gratefulness we can begin by looking at the following Eckhart Tolle quote; What does gratefulness mean? It means you appreciate what is. You value, you give attention to, you honor whatever is here at this moment.” Gratefulness is such a beautifully simple mindfulness practice.
While we’ll see the most benefits from cultivating gratefulness every day, a committed daily practice can be difficult when life gets busy. For some, the Holidays bring out an abundance of gratitude, for others the Holidays are times of stress and pressure. Simply knowing what gratefulness is, will only get us so far. In order to truly embody this wisdom we have to be in the experience of gratefulness, which takes practice. Try the following practice until the new year, truly feel gratitude in your heart and body.
Sharon Salzberg, an incredibly warm and kind meditation teacher encourages all of us to deepen into gratitude with the following practice.
I offer my gratitude for the safety and well-being I have been given. I offer my gratitude for the blessing of this earth I have been given. I offer my gratitude for the measure of health I have been given. I offer my gratitude for the family and friends I have been given. I offer my gratitude for the community I have been given. I offer my gratitude for the teachings and lessons I have been given. I offer my gratitude for the life I have been given.
Just as we are grateful for our blessings, so we can be grateful for the blessings of others.
