Rise and shine-it’s breakfast time! My name is Julia Fouts, and as a Dairy Ambassador for Tompkins County, I know the importance of the consumption of dairy for breakfast. It is not only essential for adults to eat breakfast, but kids need it even more. Their growing bodies and developing brains need a good breakfast each and every day. Dairy is a part of breakfast that is full of nutrients kids need to grow up strong and healthy. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day because it kick starts metabolism, increases attention span, and boosts energy. A nutritious morning meal consists of protein, carbohydrates, and fiber. Dairy products, such as milk and yogurt, give protein, carbohydrates, and they are also a great source of calcium. Families can choose from an abundance of dairy products for a healthy and tasty breakfast. There are a variety of milks, cheeses, and yogurts for kids and their parents to enjoy. According to the US Dietary Guidelines, everyone should consume at least three servings of dairy every day. By starting the day with milk, cheese, or yogurt you’re well on your way.
