Homesteading & the Lost Arts, a new program for youth ages 10-16, will be offered July 30 – August  2 and  August 20 – 23,  9 am—4 pm daily at  4-H Acres , 418 Lower Creek Road Ithaca, NY .

Step back in time to experience what homesteaders days were like as they made or built everything they needed from scratch; grew, prepared and preserved their food; and enjoyed working together and relaxing around the fire. Homesteading involves exploring what is available in the environment and inventing what you need.  You will face challenges and tackle them together with fellow participants and experienced staff.

Youth will experience what it takes to develop a homestead such as: building shelter, gardening, cooking over a fire, primitive pottery, metal forging/branding, weaving, natural dying, gourd containers log drum making, and walking sticks.   Try a little of everything and do more of what piques your interest.  Experience what daily life was like many, many years ago.
