Posted by Dustin Horton // April 28, 2013 // Calendar of Events
Friday 8pm, Sunday 3pm at 19 Church Street (the former United Community Church) in Cortland. Free concert presented by the SUNY Performing Arts Department and The Arts at Grace, in association with McNeil Development Company. The Choral Union will perform with a full orchestra and soloists, with over 100 singers under the direction of Stephen B. Wilson. The venue was chosen because of its remarkable acoustics and seating capacity for both choir and audience. A special lecture at 1:30 will precede the Sunday performance, given by the musicologist expert on the Verdi Requiem, Cornell University Professor Emeritus of Musicology, David Rosen. The performance is 90 minutes; there will be one intermission. A reception will follow the Sunday performance. 2013 marks the bicentennial of Verdi’s birth (10 October 1813). All welcome; no admission fee for either the performance or the lecture. Ample parking available in the nearby Cortland County Office Building parking lot at 60 Central Avenue.
