Allstate’s Identity Theft Expenses coverage helps to reimburse those insured for lost time at work, attorney fees, phone calls, mailing costs, loan re-application fees, and more; and the benefit is designed to help reduce the time victims spend trying to recover what they have lost.

The following are tips that might help individuals better protect themselves:

• Do not carry un-needed credit cards
• Cancel your unused, lost, or stolen credit card accounts immediately
• Keep important personal documents in a secure place and do not carry originals or duplicates in your wallet
• Check your credit history periodically
• Report unauthorized activity
• Store receipts in a safe place
• Never give your social security number out, especially not on the telephone or over the Internet when you have not initiated the contact
