November 10 – Forcing Spring Bulbs for Winter Bloom
Posted by Dustin Horton // October 27, 2011 // Calendar of Events, Home & Garden
Learn how easy it is to ‘force’ hardy spring bulbs and have flowers in the winter. Pat Curran will demonstrate how to pot up hardy bulbs such as crocus, hyacinths, and daffodils, and discuss the care they need to flower well. Participants in this hands-on workshop will take home two pots with bulbs to force at home bulbs that can be planted in the garden next year. Also, new this year, learn how to use an alcohol solution to keep your paperwhites shorter, and bring your questions about which bulbs are best suited to your landscape. The Forcing Spring Bulbs Workshop will be held Thurs. Nov. 10, 6:30-8:30 pm at the Tompkins County Cornell Cooperative Extension Education Center, 615 Willow Avenue, Ithaca. The $18 fee covers bulbs, pots, and potting mix. The class is limited to 20 participants, pre-registration and prepayment both required. Wear casual clothes! Please call 272-2292 for more information or registration.
