Meet the Author:  A Celebration of Local History

Please join us to meet local and regional authors at CCHS on Saturday, December 2 from 11am to 1pm. The following authors will be here to sign copies of their latest books: 

Edmund J. Raus, Jr.:  The Cortland County, New York, Homefront During the Civil War

• The Civil War left no family in America untouched. If your ancestors lived in Cortland County, this book is an important resource for understanding Cortland County’s involvement in the Civil War as well as a genealogical gold mine for researchers.

Adrienne Morris:  By the Shores of Solon Pond

• Farm boy Waldo Potter strives to save his father’s impoverished upstate New York acreage as drums of war beat. By the Shores of Solon Pond captures the joys and hardships of rural life and is a tribute to Cortland County’s rural heritage, but, most of all, it is a tribute to one young man’s sacrificial love for his family.

A new temporary exhibit featuring Cortland County and the Civil War will open on December 2 to accompany this event. 

Couture by Candlelight

Our annual holiday open house will be held from 6-8pm on December 2. If you enjoy fashion but missed our spring fashion exhibit, now is your chance to see some beautiful and unique clothing from the past. Experience “Warm & Cozy” winter fashions by candlelight in our charming Suggett House Museum! Ramble through the past as you feast your eyes on fashions of yesteryear. As always, admission to the museum is free, but donations are cheerfully accepted. 

Punch and cookies will round out your trip into the past, and our gift shop will be open for your convenience.
