Mike’s Food for Thought – A1 Restaurant

This week I went to the A1 restaurant in Dryden, NY. They are located on 151 North Street. For hours of operation, give the restaurant a call, 844-4466.
As with any restaurant, different people have different views. I have found that no matter what you hear or read, go and try the restaurant. I went to A1 and had a really delicious and satisfying dinner.
The restaurant was very nice inside. Your choice of tables or booths are available. It smelled so darn good, I couldn’t wait to order and eat. The restaurant was impeccably clean. Our waitress was fantastic. She was knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. We couldn’t decide what to order and she would check back every few minutes until we finally decided upon our pizza.
My friend and I found coupons for A1 in the Cortland Tribune. We opted for the large cheese pizza for only $7.99 coupon. For $1.49 you could add an extra topping. They had a large variety of toppings. The usual pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, onion, green peppers, ham, but they also had homemade meatballs, garlic, feta cheese, bleu cheese, chicken, spinach and more. We decided on the sausage, meatball, mushroom pizza. The pizza arrived steaming hot. The sausage was not greasy and the sliced homemade meatballs were delicious. They used fresh mushrooms, not canned. Thats a big plus for me. The crust was perfect, not too thick or too thin, Just the right amount of toppings too. The crust was nice and crisp and I could tell it was a fresh homemade dough.
They had quite a nice wine list and the prices ranged from $4.99 for the house wine up to around $6.99 for some of the more well known wines. We decided on a red wine from The Thirsty Owl winery which is located on Cayuga Lake. I was pleased to see they carried Thirsty Owl wine. It is one of the better wineries on Cayuga Lake.
A1 also has a nice selection of beers too. There really was something for everyone.
I had heard from people that A1 had great pizza. It is Really Good Pizza. They also have a variety of salads, appetizers, sandwiches, pasta and other entrees. My friend and I will go back soon so we can try some of their other food. I saw some people in the booth next to us and they had some huge sandwiches that looked very tasty.
One final thought. I managed a pizza restuarant in Ithaca for 10 years. I made a lot of pizzas. I give A1 two thumbs up. Stop in and give them a try soon.
