June 14 – Art & Nature Event & Exhibit
Posted by Dustin Horton // June 4, 2014 // Calendar of Events
When: 9:00 a.m.-Noon
Where: Cornell Lab of Ornithology, 159 Sapsucker Woods Road, Ithaca, NY
Description: Meet author and artist Anita Schmidt-Kyanka during this special event at the Cornell Lab. Anita has written “Sapsucker Blues,” a new children’s book about an endearing family of Great Blue Herons living at Sapsucker Woods Pond. The story is based on the real lives of herons who nested on a snag above the pond for several years. Millions of people around the world watched in wonder as one of the Lab’s live bird cams focused on all the activity in the nest. Anita’s watercolor illustrations for the book are now on display at the Lab through the end of August.
Starting at 9:00 a.m. on June 14, the author will lead a walk in Sapsucker Woods, then read and sign copies of her book and answer any questions. Copies of the book will be available for purchase in the Wild Birds Unlimited at Sapsucker Woods store in the visitor center. There will also be a guided art activity at 11:00.
