When Joe Saam had the idea for a general store, he enlisted the help of his friend, Tim Murray. The two best friends have known each other for more than 35 years, dating back to high school. Both earned their retail chops in big box stores where they learned the importance of taking care of the customer, having the right merchandise in stock and the art of merchandising and display. Tim owned his own antique store in Sidney, NY and had a loyal following and Joe, who was looking to leave his career in big box retail, had the vision for an old-time general store with a twist, adding furniture and decor and selling organic and gourmet foods. The two both knew the concept would be a winner, especially since there are few places to get high quality custom furniture and decor that is merchandised like a furniture store with functional antiques added into the mix. Their goal from the beginning was to pull together the furniture, rugs, lamps and decor and display it so the customer could envision it as if it were in their home.

Joe and Tim have a lot of plans in the works for Hymn & Hawe Country Store during the holiday season.  They have a Sip and Shop customer appreciation event planned for Friday, December 10th from 5pm to 8pm. They have a local jazz singer who will sing standards and Madrona Tasting Room will be in store to sample their wines and spirits. They will be offering a store-wide 10% discount, free gift wrapping and hors d’oeuvres. That same evening the store is sponsoring a Christmas caroling event through the village.  The store will be open every day from Black Friday until Christmas Eve. The store hours will be Monday through Saturday from 10am to 6pm and Sunday 12pm to 5pm. Hymn & Hawe Country Store is located at 43 Genesee Street Greene, NY 13778.  You can follow the store on Facebook and Instagram for sales and new product offerings. Questions or looking for something, call them at 607-875-4375. Happy holidays and see you soon!
