Central New York Living History Center

Are you interested in walking through history?  The Central New York Living History Center is the place for you!  Conveniently located at 4386 US Route 11 between Cortland and Homer, our three component museum offers something for everyone.  We like to pride ourselves on Trucks, Trains and Tractors, but there is so much more! 

The Brockway Truck Museum is devoted to the history, furniture, carriages and the trucks that were produced here in Cortland County from 1875 until 1977.  These dependable, heavy-duty, diesel trucks and the history of this local company, put this area on the map as Huskietown, USA.  The museum features a rotating collection of trucks owned by the Brockway Truck Preservation Association.  Not to be missed, is the 1925 Brockway Fire Truck from Buenos Aires, Argentina.  

For the train enthusiasts, The Homeville Museum will not disappoint.  Model trains layouts will take you back to your childhood and the life-size display of the Lackawanna RR 2107 Engine with its original lights and working bell will truly amaze.  Also featured in this unique museum is an extensive collection of Military Memorabilia dating back to the Civil War and as far forward as the modern day conflicts.  For those interested in local history, information on the industries and sports from this area are on display. The majority of items in the Homeville Museum are from the private collection of the late Ken Eaton, a WWII Veteran and Civil War enthusiast. 

Lastly, the Big Red Barn on the property, is the home of the Tractors of Yesteryears Collection.  This multi-colored collection of vintage tractors and walk-behinds, promises to be some of the most unique tractors that you have ever seen.  In “Grandma’s Kitchen and Parlor”, you will find items that made up the heart of the home in years past.   This year’s special exhibit features all types of Textiles, including linens, clothing and more.

Even with the pandemic, our exhibits have been updated, expanded and refreshed.  

Are you planning a function?  We have a variety of rental spaces available to accommodate your group.  Our New Garden and Veranda area is ready for your outdoor parties.   Indoor spaces are also available including our theater for group presentations or family movie night.

Intrigued?  Come walk through history with us.  Our current hours are:  Thursday – Saturday, 10 AM – 5 PM, last admission is at 4 PM; Tuesday – Wednesday are by appointment.  We will soon be expanding our hours to Tuesday – Saturday, ask about Sunday hours.  Groups of 10 or more are welcome anytime by appointment.

We are uncertain what our summer and fall event line-up will look like.  We are planning to bring events back to the CNY Living History Center as the guidelines allow.
