May 3 – June 21 – “A Matter of Balance” Class
Posted by Dustin Horton // April 12, 2018 // Calendar of Events
“A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls” is an evidence-based program designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults. Participants learn to set realistic goals to increase activity, change their environment to reduce fall risk factors, and learn simple exercises to increase strength and balance.
Fear of falling can be as dangerous as falling. Limiting activities can result in physical weakness, making the risk of falling even greater. Many older adults also experience isolation or depression when they limit their interactions with family and friends.
Don’t cut back on a favorite activity or turn down a chance to go out with family or friends because you are concerned about falling. “A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns about Falls” can help older adults improve their quality of life and remain more independent.
This class series will be held on Thursdays for eight weeks from May 3 through June 21 from 2:15-4:15 PM at the Homer Senior Center in the Homer Town Hall located at 31 North Main Street, Homer, with parking and the entrance at the back of the building.
Prescreening and preregistration are required. Call the Area Agency on Aging at (607) 753-5060 to register and for more information. This class series is sponsored by Cortland County Area Agency on Aging (AAA) and the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP).
