February 8 – Faith & Dialogue w/ Rev. Thickstun at JBCC
Posted by Dustin Horton // January 17, 2017 // Calendar of Events
How does faith help – or hinder – us in communicating with others? The Ithaca Coalition for Unity and Cooperation in the Middle East (ICUCME) invites the community to an evening of delicious food, community conversation, live music and Middle East dance on Wed., Feb. 8 to explore the issue. A vegetarian pot-luck will be followed by a discussion of “Faith and Dialogue,” featuring remarks by Rev. Jane Thickstun of the First Unitarian Society of Ithaca. After the discussion, local musicians will provide live music while Middle Eastern dances are taught. The Feb. 8 event begins at 6:30 pm at the Just Be Cause Center, 1013 W State St, Ithaca. The event is free but donations are appreciated.
“Rev. Thickstun’s dedication to compassion and understanding between people makes her a perfect speaker for ICUCME,” said Linda Glaser, chair of the organization. “We’re looking forward to her perspective on how faith can aid and impede hearing others’ viewpoints as the framework for our discussion on Feb. 8.”
ICUCME is a grass-roots anti-racist community organization working to bring a constructive approach into dialogue about Israel and the Greater Middle East. As a non-partisan organization, ICUCME embraces fact-based, respectful dialogue, mutual recognition, and cooperation to promote understanding and support peace in the region.
