Autumn Arrives at The Cinnamon Apple Cottage

Another growing season is behind us at Valley View Gardens and what a challenge it has been! As convenient as it was for travelling, a nearly snowless winter was not a good thing for insulating root systems or for replenishing our groundwater supply. To make matters worse and to our mistaken delight, March came in like a lamb, bringing warm, spring-like temperatures that encouraged the plant kingdom to wake from a long winter’s nap much too early. Eagerly emerging from dormancy, our unsuspecting gardens were slammed with extremely low temperatures in April, damaging, and in some cases, destroying tender plants. Subsequently, during the summer months, we endured a severe drought, which only added to stress upon the landscape. As I’ve said, this was a challenging growing season, but it also provided opportunities for us to learn how to care for needy landscapes and to observe how they recovered with a little ‘tender loving care’!
At this time, we commence another lovely season at Valley View Gardens and The Cinnamon Apple Cottage! Autumn provides an opportunity for reflection, as we observe the beauty of nature displayed on hills and gardens glowing with color and texture. Equally significant, autumn is an opportunity for practicing inner beauty, as we look inside ourselves, evaluating our year and how we’ve changed and grown or need to grow in the future.
