Over the school spring break, April 25-29, 2016, CRT will be hosting a workshop for teens 13-18 with internationally known dance, technical, and theatre troupe iLuminate!

iLuminate™ is an entertainment technology company that combines state-of-the-art technology with electrifying entertainers who perform in the dark to create the ultimate performing arts experience.

Founded by dancer and software engineer Miral Kotb, iLuminate™ enables performers, choreographers, engineers, technicians, stylists and artistic directors to produce explosive performances with customized wireless lighting programs. The results are extraordinary lighting effects choreographed with phenomenal dance moves that take viewers on an exhilarating ride.

Since launching in 2009, iLuminate™’s patent-pending technology has been used in numerous performances by Grammy-winning superstars such as Chris Brown, Christina Aguilera, The Black Eyed Peas, and David Guetta, among others. It has also been featured on hit primetime television shows including America’s Got Talent (in which the dance troupe took third place), Dancing with the Stars and X Factor, awards shows like the American Music Awards, MTV’s Video Music Awards and more, and daytime favorites The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Wendy Williams Show, and Good Morning America.

This exciting group will be holding their ground breaking educational workshop here in Cortland, NY from 10a-5pm M-F April 25-29th (with a break for lunch from 1-2p) and will be split into two parts:
Part 1 for performers: An iLuminate choreographer will come and teach 4 numbers of varying difficulty levels to students interested in dance and theatre. iLuminate’s particular blend of hip hop, street, and classic dance is challenging, modern, and uncommon in central NY! The students will learn combinations specific to those genres, and will also learn to put together the dance ‘illusions’ crafted in the dark that create the magic that iLuminate is known for!
Part 2: An iLuminate technician will come and work with technical students to  and teach the wiring, coding, and design skill necessary to making iLuminate performances special. Students will create and wire gloves, learn soldering, work with lighting design software, and will be taught the creative design insight needed to create an unforgettable iLuminate experience!
Mid week, both groups will come together. The performers will put on iLuminate educational light suits, and the tech students will design the lighting effects for the numbers that the performing students have just learned! We will perform the result for parents and friends on Friday, April 29th at 7pm!

The iLuminate Project is brought to the teens of central NY through the generous support of several local businesses, groups,  and individuals:

Realty USA,   Royal Auto Group,   Edward Jones,  The Cortland Community Service Club,  The Cortland (noon) Rotary,  The Brockway Foundation, Mrs. Jean Cadwallader, and Walmart’s Community Grant Funding.
