Posted by Dustin Horton // February 13, 2016 // Calendar of Events
5pm to 7pm, YWCA, 14 Clayton Ave., Cortland Keri Blakinger, Journalist for the NY Daily News and Washington Post walks us through how she became involved in drugs and eventually got arrested with $50,000 of heroin while enrolled as a student at Cornell University. Blakinger was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison and, while there, she learned things about the criminal justice system that, as an upper-middle class white female, she’d previously had the privilege of ignoring – including everything from the abuse of solitary confinement to the strange and unexpected nature of prison culture. Open to the public. For more information call (607) 753-9651, email kelly@cortlandywca.orgor visit www.cortlandywca.org.
