What is Small Business Saturday?

In 2011, the year our business kicked off, governors, mayors, senators and even President Obama voiced support for an initiative to promote shopping small businesses— and the US Senate officially recognized Small Business Saturday!

In 2012, with heavy promotion from American Express stressing Small Business Saturday as a “Neighborhood” or “Community” Experience versus a “Shopping” experience, an estimated 73.9 went out to shop at small businesses!

Last year, it is estimated that 88 million people shopped and $14.3 billion dollars was spent at small, independent businesses!

We want to see this trend continue! The Second Knob Gifts and Antiques is an independently owned father-daughter operation.  Much of the money spent at our shop goes back into our community through charitable giving, local shopping and participation in local banks, services, etc. This year, we are hoping to showcase our customers with our Small Business Saturday Selfie Contest— the grand prize being gift certificates totaling $200!

While our shop will be closed on Thanksgiving Day (11/26) because we want our staff to really enjoy the day with their family, we will be open early (8am) on Black Friday (11/27)  and will offer free coffee and donuts to tired Black Friday shoppers. Small Business Saturday  takes place on November 28th and in addition to our Small Business Selfie Contest, we will offer all kinds of specials on new (and old) merchandise!  We really hope to see you here (and on facebook, instagram and twitter) on Small Business Saturday!

Small businesses play a crucial role in the economy, creating jobs, driving innovation, and contributing to the community in many ways. However, they often face stiff competition from larger corporations with more resources. That’s why initiatives like Small Business Saturday are so important in highlighting the value of shopping small. If you want to attract more Tampa customers to your business, speak with the team at Get The Clicks today.
