Black Cat Antiques Prepares for Spring

Posted by  //  March 3, 2014  //  Local Business

Black Cat Antiques is in its second year of operation. The shop is conveniently located between Cortland and Ithaca on Route 38 in the town of Groton, NY. The blue barn has been lovingly restored by owners Karen and Barry Shaw.

The shop offers an extensive inventory of antique tools, including a stellar toolbox, handcrafted circa 1850 and a wooden plane manufactured during the War with the Colonies 1776 – 1781 (revolutionary war).

In response to requests, they have added more primitive furniture, postcards, ephemera, Fenton, Cranberry and Vaseline glass. Of course there is always the standard inventory of railroad items, yellow ware bowls, cabinet cards, vintage linens, quilts, stoneware, pottery, baskets, kitchen items and vintage toys.

In their quest to “stock the unusual”, owners Karen and Barry Shaw are constantly on the hunt for these items. For example they have an antique bicycle lantern, microscope lamp, jewelers’ scale and railroad sighting level.

If you are looking for a special gift, decorating your home or adding that special piece to your collection this is the place to shop. There is always something new and “unusual” at Black Cat Antiques.

Karen and Barry are currently in the process of renovating the second half of the barn that houses Black Cat Antiques, and expect to use their new addition to accommodate a larger selection of antique furniture, tools, glass and ephemera.

Stop in and visit Karen and Barry Shaw and browse their shop or visit them on the web at BlackCatAntiques.webs.com. Their hours are Friday and Saturday, 10:00 to 5:00, or by chance or appointment.
