2014 Ag Summit Seeks Farmers
Posted by Dustin Horton // February 9, 2014 // Farming & Agriculture, News
The 2014 Tompkins County Ag Summit seeks farmers working land in Tompkins County – all types and sizes of operations, owning and/or renting land – to review and provide additional comment on the work done so far to update the County Agriculture and Farmland Protection Plan. The Summit is Wednesday, February 26th, 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Dryden VFW.
CCE-Tompkins has been listening to farmers in agricultural sector focus groups for over a year, hearing farmers’ concerns, issues, successes, and thoughts about and concerns for the future of their industry in Tompkins County. The information gathered has been reviewed and organized under general themes – now, farmers are needed to make sure this reflects what they said and to help develop specific goals and strategies for moving forward.
This event will begin with a hearty breakfast featuring many local foods and an update on the Farm Bill, followed by a panel discussion on Who’s Farming the Future, featuring young farmers from the area. Then we will move into group review, discussion, and comments on the draft Plan material.
Event cost is $10 per person; for questions or to register contact Debbie Teeter, 272-2292/DLT22@cornell.edu. Sponsored by the Tompkins County Agriculture and Farmland Protection Board.
