This is one of the first plants to flower in the spring.  Between its name and the time of year that it flowers shows what this plants healing powers are.  Its Latin name means blood.  The Indian name for this plant is puccoon.  Where there is evil there is balance with good.  Bloodroot is one of those very strong herbs that are balancing for the negative.  Next to every poison plant in the wild God has also planted a plant to stop its effects.

PROPERTIES:  Expectorant, diuretic, febrifuge, antispasmodic, slightly narcotic, antipathogenic, antibacterial, red dye, drying agent, emetic, antiseptic, anesthetic, anticancer.

MAGICAL USES:  An Indian brave would rub the root into the palm of his hand and then shake hands with the squaw that he wished to be with.  After four to five days she would agree.  The plant was put near doorways and windows to protect a home.
