April 27 – My Brothers Keeper Quilt Group
Posted by Dustin Horton // April 16, 2012 // Benefits & Charity, Calendar of Events
On Friday April 27th My Brothers Keeper Quilt Group will have completed its 3,000th sleeping bag…all were donated to Rescue Mission in Syracuse to aid the homeless. It is also the 125th year of the Rescue Mission’s service. MBK has invited the Rescue Mission district managers to join us in celebration of these 2 events on April 27th at 11:30 to present them with sleeping bag #3,000 and to hear a history of how the mission started, what their mission is and how and where these sleeping bags are distributed. The public is welcome to join us. We will be showing the Mission folks how we use the assembly line method to make these bags and due to the generosity of local people who are aware of this project we are able to include a plastic ground sheet, hats, scarves, gloves, sweater, socks & toiletries (these are hotel/motel soaps and shampoos that our Dryden traveler’s bring home to be included in the bags.) Our other guest speaker will be Flo Wheatly, the founder of My Brother’s Keeper groups which started in Hot Bottom Pa. and now has groups all over the country donating time, material and labor to bring warmth to our homeless neighbors. Anyone interested in joining us we meet at the Dryden United Methodist Church, on Fridays from Oct.-April from 10-3. MBK provides beverages, dessert and veggie tray each week so just bring a sandwich and come join us.
