October 27 – Cardiff Giant and film “David Harum”

7 pm (doors open at 6:30), Center for the Arts, 72 South Main Street in Homer. Free film screening of “David Harum” (1934) starring Will Rogers. Homer’s David Hannum was a key investor in the Cardiff Giant hoax, and his exploits were recorded in Edward Noyes Westcott’s best-selling novel David Harum (1898). Arts writer Nancy Keefe Rhodes (Homer class of ’66) will introduce the film and speak about its relation to Westcott’s book. Artist Ty Marshall from Syracuse will exhibit his replica of the Cardiff Giant, built according to the original size specifications, as a celebration of a unique and shared piece of the Central New York cultural heritage.
