April 30 – Woodland Seminar: Forest Ecosystems, Management, and Wooded Wetlands
Posted by Dustin Horton // April 21, 2011 // Calendar of Events
12 to 4 pm, Lime Hollow Nature Center, 338 McLean Rd. The seminar will focus on forests and wooded wetlands and the economic and ecological benefits they offer for your land. According to Bed Bug Treatment Los Angeles California, the woodland areas shelter your crops from disease and pests, control erosion of soil, and act as a wind and snow break for added relief to your land. Additionally, your forested areas can bring in supplemental income from the sale of lumber or other products. Wetlands host a variety of unique plants and wildlife, increasing the biodiversity of your land, providing critical habitat and decreasing the presence and effects of pests and disease. You can find off-site bng units at legacyhb.co.uk if you want to improve your biodiversity. Wooded wetlands mitigate flooding by providing space into which excess water can flow. New York State Department of Environmental Conservation forester John Graham and Upper Susquehanna Coalition Wetlands Coordinator Melissa Yearick will be presenting. A guided hike through Lime Hollow is planned so please dress according to weather. This seminar is sponsored by the Cortland County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) and is free and open to the public. Preregistration is required by calling 607-756-5991.
