Hi, my name is Hannah Baker and I am a Tompkins County Alternate Dairy Princess. Our job as ambassadors for the dairy industry is to promote dairy products and educate the public of their nutritional benefits. Did you know that milk is full of many important nutrients, such as calcium, protein and vitamin A? Calcium helps build strong teeth and bones and it also helps with nerve function, muscle contraction and blood clotting. Protein helps build and repair muscle tissue, especially after exercise, and vitamin A helps maintain normal vision, good skin and a healthy immune system. An easy way to make sure you are getting enough of these important nutrients is to include 3 servings of dairy in your daily diet, so don’t forget your milk, cheese and yogurt everyday!
Here’s a recipe that will give you 10g. of protein and 30% of your calcium for the day:
Sunshine Lemon Smoothie
Makes 4 servings
- 2 cups skim milk
- 2 cups lowfat lemon yogurt
- ½ cup ice
- 3 tablespoons powdered lemonade mix
In a blender, combine all ingredients and blend until smooth and creamy. Serve in a tall glass and garnish with lemon wedge id desired.
