Many people start farming with the intention of making money, but with a lot of energy directed to production the business side of farming sometimes is ignored. Cornell Cooperative Extension South Central NY Agriculture Program is offering a workshop focused on farm business records and business analysis tools for farm enterprise that are in the start up to first 10 year period of operation. The workshop includes farmer, John Bokaer-Smith with Westhaven Vegetable and Fruit Farm, in Ithaca. John has 20 year of experience farming and has developed simplified record keeping systems that help him make production, marketing and business decisions. Dick Overton, retired from a career in farm finance, is a Cornell Farmnet Financial Advisor, who will also be speaking about tools to track business performance. The workshop will provide farmers with information and tools to do a better job of tracking business performance that will help them make decision that lead to greater profitability.
The workshop is being held Saturday, March 5, from 9:30-Noon, at the Cornell Cooperative Extension office in Ithaca located at 615 Willow Ave. Ithaca, NY 14850. There is a $5 fee for the workshop. To register call CCETC at 607-272-2292 or email mr55@cornell.edu.
