April 7 – Phil Clarke Memorial Musician’s Benefit
Posted by Dustin Horton // April 2, 2012 // Arts & Live Music, Calendar of Events
7 pm, Blue Frog, 64 Main Street in Cortland. A donation will be collected at the door. The benefit is held annually by a group of local musicians to remember fellow musician and friend, Phil Clarke who succumbed to cancer in 1996. An active member of the Cortland community, Clarke was a well-loved musician who had been a member of several local bands including keyboardist for Eddy’s Basement. This year’s concert line up includes an excellent mix of musical styles and a group of very talented musicians: The Rolling Prines, Separated at Berth, The Wild Hunt, Colleen Kattau and Some Guys, and a special performance by the Blue Frog’s very own Karina Murphy. The show will benefit the Cortland Youth Bureau’s “Music Matters” program, which includes an opportunity for young people to borrow an instrument free of charge for a 3-month period, guitar, drum, piano and vocal lessons at the youth center, practice space, and hosting bands on the youth center stage every month. For more information about “Music Matters” call Heather Johnson at the Youth Center, 607-753-3580. For more information about the Phil Clarke Memorial Concert, call the Cortland Youth Bureau at 607-753-3021.
