It seems as though spring has sprung! Thank goodness. I don’t know how much more of “winter” I could stand.
With the blooms springing forth from the cool dirt, comes the sweet chirping of birds, blue skies and sunshine. The brown and seemingly lifeless grass seems to be resuscitated from one day to the next and in the blink of an eye, winter fades and spring sneaks in. Spring changes things unexpectedly—and can even change our outlook on life. I totally understand how E.E. Cummings must have felt as he penned the poem “Spring is Like a Perhaps Hand.”
Spring is like a perhaps hand
(which comes carefully
out of Nowhere) arranging
a window, into which people look (while
people stare
arranging and changing placing
carefully there a strange
thing and a known thing here) and
changing everything carefully
spring is like a perhaps
Hand in a window
(carefully to
and from moving New and
Old things, while
people stare carefully
moving a perhaps
fraction of flower here placing
an inch of air there) and
without breaking anything.
~E.E. Cummings
We see signs of spring everywhere – even in The Second Knob Gifts & Antiques. As a shop-owner, “spring lines” begin with Easter merchandise being displayed in March (sometimes, even February!) and then, following a short reprieve, we bound into Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Graduations.
Recently, we added a selection of garland in beautiful spring pinks, creams, greens and lavenders and a touch of spring florals—think pink Gerbera daisies. We’ve also added lovely “Mother’s Day” gifts for Mom including signs, mugs, candles and more.
Make it a point to spend time with your Mom on Mother’s Day. Get out and enjoy spring! And, if you happen to be passing through Dryden, please visit us as The Second Knob, 129 North St. (Route 13). Mom will love our shop and, if you really want to surprise her, give her a gift certificate ahead of time and bring her in to spend it!
We are open Tues-Sat from 10-6 and Sunday 10-5.
