The Bling Store is Going Green!

A huge wave in recycling gently-used fashions has taken over the clothing industry along with the green movement which was inspired by environmental awareness. Fashion designers and retailers are aware and getting creative in eco-friendly ways to meet the current trends. The U.S. Department of Commerce has been reporting dramatic increases in second-hand clothing sales in recent years. Consumers from every age group and economic level have jumped on board in supporting the benefits to our planet with old-fashioned American ingenuity. Americans are moving away from the “throw away” mentality into a new era of style combined with sensibility. Statistics show that American consumers are more savvy about simultaneously saving our planet and money.

As the demand for second-hand clothing continues to rise, e-commerce retail businesses are also adapting to meet this growing trend. Efficient logistics play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of these businesses, particularly as they handle a higher volume of returns, exchanges, and shipping. With Tactical Logistics at the forefront, retailers can implement streamlined solutions to manage inventory and ensure timely deliveries. With the right logistics strategies in place, e-commerce businesses can effectively manage their supply chains, reduce costs, and improve customer satisfaction. Retailers are increasingly focused on optimizing their logistics operations to keep up with the dynamic nature of the second-hand market.

In keeping with the mission of The Bling Store, which is to operate a successful retail business that provides Cortland County and surrounding communities with a distinctive resource for shopping, we have recognized the new green trend and we are excited to be adding a new section in our store with “gently pre-loved” garments and accessories. These “gently pre-loved” items will be in like-new condition and bare the labels of designers and better brands at a fraction of their original cost.

The rise of environmentalism and a sluggish economy triggered The Bling Store to consider adding recycled fashions. In the existing economic climate, recreating business to fit the need of its community is crucial. Reinventing itself is nothing new for the store. In 2005, The Bling Store originally opened its doors in the historic Clock Tower building in downtown Cortland. Six months later, the building burned and all was lost. After this devastating setback the owners were inspired by the community’s support and driven by a determination to reopen. The reopening was a year later at a temporary location until it reached its current home at 101 Main Street in historic, downtown Cortland, nearly 3 years ago. The Bling Store was honored and delighted to accept the 2010 Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year Award. In 2012, the store was again honored with the 2012 Retailer of Year Award. If such a store were to expand their business, they may need essential items like a plus size mannequin.

Shopping for used and vintage clothing is a economical alternative to shopping in the mass market chains. You won’t spend as much, you’ll be helping to save the environment, and you will create a look that is current and classy! Customer Service will remain the top priority. The Bling Store has developed a reputation for assisting its customers to know when something works well for their shape and style. We can now assist customers with “gently pre-loved” merchandise that will offer brand-name/designer labels such as Michael Kors, Ann Taylor Loft, Talbot’s, Chico’s, Coldwater Creek, j. jill, Calvin Klein, August Silk, Gap, Banana Republic, Ralph Lauren, Vera Bradley, Jones New York, Liz Claiborne, Cable & Gage and many more. All sizes will be available as the concept grows within the shop. Watch for these gently pre-loved items to hit the racks in March! Stay tuned! We may be inviting you to bring us your gently used-items for consignment or purchase.
