American Red Cross – March Volunteer of the Month

Vivien Hicks-Zamay of Cortland is the March Red Cross/Dunkin’ Donuts Volunteer of the Month. Vivien, a Medical Assisting student at OCM BOCES, did a volunteer internship at the Cortland Country Red Cross office during February—the final requirement of her training.

As an intern, she completed several projects and tasks—answering phones, helping clients, cleaning and organizing the office and preparing manikins for Health & Safety classes.

“It’s a rewarding experience to see what the Red Cross means to the community,” says Vivien on why she chose to do her internship with the American Red Cross.

Prior to her internship, Vivien was actively involved in the Cortland Blood Pressure Screening Program. The staff members of the Cortland office are extremely thankful for all her assistance.

Vivien recently moved to Cortland from Florida to pursue a medical career (check out this site for more health care careers). She is still actively volunteering in the Cortland office and at weekly Blood Pressure Screenings and plans to continue volunteering for the Red Cross, even after she gets a full-time job. Vivien is also a practitioner of Reiki, a form of alternative medicine.

Red Cross Volunteer of the Month is a Dunkin’ Donuts sponsored program, providing gift cards for the elected volunteers.

About the American Red Cross:
Your American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies nearly half of the nation’s blood; teaches lifesaving skills; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization — not a government agency — and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
