Year end is here, and most people have no idea where their business stands or how the tax law changes from the OBBBA passed by Congress in July will affect their tax liability.
Are your business’s bank accounts and credit cards reconciled for each month of 2025 and are your business transactions categorized properly on your profit and loss statement and balance sheet? Are business credit card and loan balances reflected correctly with current principal balances and interest expense posted on your profit and loss statement? Do you have enough income tax paid in to the IRS and New York State so you are not hit with a large tax due in April that you did not expect?
Too many business people put their bookkeeping on the back burner and lose track of their income and expenses. If you do not follow a defined process that runs all business transactions through the business’s bank account, it can be guaranteed that cash transactions are missing and personal expenses are combined with business expenses.
