Wine, Dine, Play & Stay – Memorable Culinary Experiences in the Finger Lakes to Benefit Healthy Food For All
Posted by Dustin Horton // September 14, 2011 // News
From September through November, while culinary enthusiasts savor the Finger Lakes and experience the finest wines, food, music, activities and accommodations, farmers will raise funds to provide fresh seasonal produce to families with limited income.
Memorable fine dining benefit galas will be held on the weekends of September 17th, October 2nd and November 13th in the stunningly beautiful fields of upstate NY’s Finger Lakes farms with menus inspired by the season and prepared by Simply Red Bistro, Red Newt Bistro and Just a Taste Restaurant. Live music will fill the evening, and libations from Hosmer Winery, Red Newt Winery and Ithaca Beer will pair perfectly with every bite. Guests will enjoy hors d’oeuvres while touring a farm on a hayride before dining with the sun setting over the fields with farmers, vintners, and chefs sharing stories behind the making of the region’s best culinary fare.
The September 17th Autumn’s Harvest Farm Dinner can be complimented with Finger Lakes Cork and Fork, a premier field-to-feast event celebrating the region’s agriculture, viticulture, and culinary treasures. Guests can stay the weekend at Gothic Eves in a historic Inn filled with period antiques, fireplaces, pillow-top beds and fine linens and a local, gourmet breakfast generously served overlooking the garden. On Sunday head to Goose Watch Winery to enjoy an afternoon of jazz music overlooking Cayuga Lake or spend the day in Ithaca at an international festival with live music by a myriad of international performers, craft vendors, food and activities.
In October, enjoy Stick and Stone Farm’s Harvest Dinner and a 3-day Apple Festival in downtown Ithaca celebrating food, fun and fall with music, dancing, amusement rides, a craft-fair, vendors and street performers.
In November, kick-off the weekend before West Haven Farm’s Harvest Dinner with happy-hour jazz and swing dance lessons or a classical concert on Friday evening. Spend Saturday soaking in the colors and flavors of autumn u-picking apples at Little Tree Orchards and curling up by the fireplace at Gothic Eves sipping hot apple cider and nibbling warm cider doughnuts.
Proceeds from the harvest dinners and B&B stay will benefit Healthy Food For All, a partnership of Cornell Cooperative Extension Tompkins County and family-owned farms to make fresh seasonal produce accessible to households with limited income.
Harvest Dinner tickets start at $75 per person and may be purchased by going to www.HealthyFoodForAll.org or contacting harvestdinners@gmail.com or 607-342-8845. Seating is limited so purchase early! For Gothic Eves B&B reservations, please go to http://www.gothiceves.com or call 607-387-6033.
