Running to Places Theatre Company is pleased to present a favorite for all ages, Cinderella, as its final production of the season. The timeless enchantment of a magical fairy tale is reborn with the Rodgers & Hammerstein hallmarks of originality, charm and elegance. Originally presented on television in 1957 starring Julie Andrews, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s CINDERELLA was the most widely viewed program in the history of the medium. The “Enchanted Edition” stage version will introduce the next generation to the miraculous kingdom of dreams-come-true, and is based on the 1997 teleplay, which starred Brandy as Cinderella and Whitney Houston as her Fairy Godmother. As adapted for the stage, with great warmth and more than a touch of hilarity, the hearts of children and adults alike still soar when the slipper fits.
Performances are August 26 – 28 and a great way to close out the summer, with Friday & Saturday shows at 7pm and a Sunday matinee at 2pm. The young at heart are encouraged to wear prince and princess attire if they wish, and are invited to meet the major characters after the show (who will appear still in costume) and get autographs. Tickets, including group sales, are available at the State Theatre box office at 105 W. State Street, by calling 607-277-8283, or online at www.stateofithaca.com.
The artistic team includes Joey Steinhagen (Director), Gail Belokur (Producer), Todd Peterson (Choreographer), Richard Montgomery (Music Director), Tyler Perry (Scenic Design), Max Dolittle (Lighting Design) and Michelle Roy (Costume Design). The design is focused upon bringing to life every young person’s dream of the story-book magic of Cinderella. The show is sponsored by Overhead Door Company of Cortland, Savage Club of Ithaca, and Kelly Damm Attorney at Law. Running to Places also receives season-long support from CSP Management, the Ithaca Youth Bureau, and Cayuga Radio Group as well as grant support from Community Arts Partnership.
R2P connects middle and high school students from across the Tompkins County area, teaching important life skills and strengthening community while creating great theatre. Founded in 2007, they were recently named “Best Community Theatre Company of 2010” by the readers of the Ithaca Times.
