Let’s go to the Fair!  This phrase means something different to everyone, but has been enthusiastically exclaimed for the last forty years in Tompkins County.  The 4-H Youth Fair will be celebrating its 40th anniversary July 27th-30th at 4-H Acres on Lower Creek Road off Route 13.  This annual celebration of youth achievement features plant, environmental, arts, communication, mechanical, animal and consumer & family science exhibits as well as animal shows, exceptional food, and family events.

The fair will open on Wednesday morning, July 27th at 7:30 with a Pancake Breakfast, all are welcome.  Saturday is Family Fun Day and will offer a full schedule of activities for the public, including a chicken barbecue! Saturday’s events are especially geared to the Tompkins County community, from 10:00am-3:00pm games will be available and a silent auction will take place. The public is welcome anytime and admission is free!  Bring your children for an unforgettable day of interacting with animals and the 4-Hers who raise them. Come to the pole barn at noon to lead animals. Any way you look at it, the Tompkins County 4-H Youth Fair is a time for celebration.  The Fair is also a great place for communities to relax and enjoy, while learning about the special talents and skills of our young people.

In celebration of forty years, the 4-H Fair will also include some special events such as a 4-H Honor Tree to be lit on Saturday morning at 10:00. This is an opportunity to recognize all of the important leaders, members, parents, and volunteers who have helped in making forty fantastic years of the fair possible. Luminaries may be purchased at the Country Kitchen during Fair or at the CCETC education center anytime. The tree will be lit during a special Live Radio Broadcast with Chris Allinger of Q-Country Radio.

Across the country, young people are gaining life experiences and developing leadership skills through activities that culminate in exhibiting their projects at fair time.  They are leaders today.  They will be leaders tomorrow. Youth work in partnerships with adults to lead activities, as well as plan, set up, run activities.  Teen superintendents mentor younger members who serve as stewards and assistants. The Tompkins County 4-H Acres Youth Fair celebrates their leadership and accomplishments.  Stop by and celebrate their triumphs with us from July 27th-30th!
