Lost Dogs of the Finger Lakes

I started the community Facebook page, Lost Dogs of the Finger Lakes, with the hope that I could help a few lost or found dogs get safely home. My intention was to spend a few moments each day perusing the websites and Facebook pages of area shelters, SPCAs, Humane Societies, and rescues. I would gather their postings about dogs that they had found or were reported missing and post them to LDOTFL. Doing so would create a central hub where all lost and found dogs in our region could be accessed and, more importantly, shared by the public.
2 years later, I never could have imagined that this page would have grown and made the impact that it has. With the help of two amazing admins, Charlene Mottler, Karen Wadsworth, and a dog-loving community, we have created a tool that has helped countless dogs return home to loving families and, in turn, helped area shelters keep their numbers low and kennels empty.
In the past 2 years, we have built strong ties with rescues, SPCAs, Humane Societies, and shelters within our region. This provides for open lines of communication which improves and accelerates our ability to get dogs home. We’ve also stepped up to help families searching for their dogs. On our page you will find several articles about lost dog behavior and dos and don’ts when attempting to recover your dog. We’ve also had great success in tracking, humanely trapping, and teaching others about lost dog behavior and legal responsibilities when dogs are lost or found.
Lost Dogs of the Finger Lakes has done so much for the lost and founds of our community. But it is our community that makes LDOTFL work! Without their help, heart, and love for these dogs, we’d be just another page of Facebook fodder. Please help us help them – TOGETHER, we can get them home!
