The Second Knob Warehouse is on the move. We’ve just moved into our gorgeous new space at 279 Route 13 in Cortland (right next to Elm Tree Golf Course!). All our vendors joined us and, this week, they are unpacking, setting up, building displays and bringing out their treasures; we are busy getting ready for a March 22nd Grand Opening and looking forward to planning future guest vendor events! We will have a soft opening as soon as possible and are asking our customers to watch for our “open flag” to be out and our “open sign” to be on at the new location. We are excited to offer new hours: Wednesday- Sunday from 10am-5pm. Of course, the easiest way to stay up to date on our vendor mall hours, activities and events, is to follow TSK Warehouse on Facebook and/or TSK Warehouse Vendor Mall on Instagram.

You are wondering what’s happening at our old place aren’t you?

Between now and the end of April, The Second Knob will still be using 465 North Road in Freeville for 3-4 Warehouse Liquidation Auctions! These are online auctions, allowing us to empty thousands of antiques, collectibles and other assorted treasures! Most of these items were moved from storage, where they’d been packed for 25-30 years! We are excited to open these boxes and see what we find!

Participating in our online auctions is easy, fun and can be done right from the comfort of your home. Simply visit our auction website at TheSecondKob.hibid.com and choose the active auction. Each of our auctions is live and open for bidding for 10-14 days. You will need to register to bid but The Second Knob doesn’t use hi-bid payment processing, so buyers do not need to enter a credit card! When you place a bid, you are asked to place your “Max Bid.” A “max bid” refers to the highest amount of money you are willing to pay for an item at an online auction, allowing the system to automatically bid on your behalf up to that limit, ensuring you win the item unless someone bids higher than your maximum amount; essentially, it’s a ceiling price you set to avoid manually bidding incrementally throughout the auction process. One of the biggest benefits of participating in our online auctions is that we offer great detail on our lots and we provide detailed photos so you know what you are getting.

Right now, the first of four liquidation sales is LIVE until March 9th when it will close at 6pm with a soft, staggered closing. A “soft staggered closing” refers to an online auction setting where individual lots close sequentially with a slight delay between each one, while also incorporating a “soft close” feature, meaning if a bid is placed within a certain time frame before the scheduled closing, the auction automatically extends for a short period to allow for further bidding activity. When I am asked about auction “pointers,” I always advise bidders to be sure to place their max bids unless they know they can be online for closing—to place bids then. I always encourage bidders to participate in the closing. For auctions that are close enough, I always advise buyers to do live previews; make an appointment to visit and then actually inspect the items you are interested in.

Once the auction is closed, winning bidders will receive an itemized invoice via email and then a separate email with a payment link from us!  Your lots may be picked up at 465 North Rd in Freeville with an appointment (call: (607) 844-5662). You may pay online using the link to pay or you may pay cash at pick up. All lot invoices must be paid within 48 hours of the auction closing—but, for our liquidation auctions, we are allowing bidders to leave lots with us until the liquidation is complete. Shipping is available on all smalls.

Fans of in-person auctions often prefer online auctions once they’ve tried them. Make no mistake, the bidding adrenaline exists for bidders online just like it does at in-person auctions! And bidding online gets competitive, too. Try it and see what you think! If you need help registering or need a tutorial, I am always available to help.

As always, we look forward to “seeing” you all soon whether it is at the new place or online!
