Chiller Haunted House

When people tell Jim Coon, creator of the Chiller Haunted House, that they went through the haunt in the early years and now they are bringing their grandchildren, it makes him feel old. Jim started the haunt when he was 16 and living on Lamont Drive in Cortlandville. At 57, Jim now lives on Madison Street in the city and the Chiller Haunted House is ready to celebrate 42 years of scaring the neighbors.
“I guess we just keep scaring generation after generation” Coon says, “So many people tell me that they went through as a kid and now they are bringing their kids, but when some says grandkids, it makes me realize just how long I’ve been at this…and it does make me feel old.” He says with a smile.
“42 years is a long time to do anything, but this is something I enjoy and look forward to every year.”
How much longer can Coon go on scaring the Cortland community? “ I hope to make at least 8 more years. That will be number 50 and I will be 65. After that, well I guess we’ll see.”
The Chiller Haunted House will open it’s does for a Preview Night on Saturday night, October 26 from 7pm – 9pm and Thursday October 31 ( Halloween ) from 6pm – 10pm. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated to cover expenses.
