Cortland Chenango Rural Services, Inc. is a non-profit organization serving the needs of residents in the rural towns of Cincinnatus, Willet, Solon, Taylor, Freetown, Pitcher, Otselic, Lincklaen, German, McDonough and Pharsalia. The staff and volunteers seek to build a sense of community, provide assistance locally through grants and donations, and link people to services available in larger communities. Other agencies are provided space to meet with people locally, including WIC, Fidelis, Office of the Aging, Lourdes Mobile Mammography, COTI Mobile Van, making these programs more accessible to our rural residents.
The Nearly New Shop offers clothing for the entire family at reasonable prices. Food programs include a Food Pantry, our “No Child Hungry” program provides weekend food for students, the monthly Food Sense program through the Food Bank of Central New York, and a Farmer’s Market which supports the sales of locally grown food.
In addition, students are helped with school supplies, families assisted at Thanksgiving and Christmas with food and clothing items, assisted with medical needs as grants allow, as well as help with emergency needs.
The number of people needing assistance has increased. In addition, rising costs of these services puts a strain on available resources. In order for all the programs to function fully donations are needed and much appreciated.
There are also opportunities to volunteer your time and talent. Come visit and see how you can help. For more information, call 863-3828 or email rursrvs@gmail.com.
