The Mid-State Microd Club (formerly Cortland County Microd Club) offers a unique and exciting racing experience for boys and girls in Central New York. Children aged 5-18 yrs. learn to maintain and drive “micro-hotrods” or “microds” (similar to go-karts, but with more protection for the driver). The Mid-State Microd Club is a not for profit organization and is located 128 Wood Road, on the corner of Elm Street and Wood Road in Groton , New York. It was purchased on July 8, 1998 and ran as Cortland County Microd Club ensuring a place to race for many generations to come. On Oct. 23rd, 1999, the club was renamed the Mid-State Microd Club to include the home bases of all of our drivers. Today the race track is still going strong. Children from age 5-18 are welcome to race in a variety of different classes. Classes include: Club Class (beginners), Jr. Novice, Novice, Limited and Stock.
Mid-State races Friday evenings at 7pm from mid-April through September. Admission is free for all spectators and we run a full concession stand with food and drinks for purchase. We currently have six drivers ranging from age 4 – 14.

I raced in Skaneateles about 1958. It was a 1/10 mile clay track with the turns paved in the early years. I set a time trial record of 17.1 seconds which probably is very slow by today’s standards. The car had not safety equipment in those days, which I didn’t appreciate the night I rolled mine (with the aid of another car) but I won’t mention Gary Sloan by name here.
I loved it and loved the car my dad prepared for me.
