Approximately 100,000 times a day, worldwide, this ‘Life Wisdom’ and direction is spoken by flight attendants to attentive passengers.
Why is this such great Wisdom? Because we can truly only care for, love, nourish and cherish others when our cup is filled with self care, self love, and nourishing and cherishing yourself.
No one can do this for You. I repeat; No. One.
Happiness, contentment and joy are truly an ‘Inside Job’. Happiness is the result, the embodied experience of the daily tending to our bodies kindly, cleaning up the contents of our mind so we return to the memory of our worthiness and goodness, and engaging our soul in creativity, and service; that which draws us deep into wonder and awe.
So, why is it so hard for us to ‘take the oxygen first before helping others?’
Many of us were raised to believe that it is selfish to think of yourself first, so in the busyness of our modern western lifestyle, we sell our time to others because we think we ‘should’. Many of us were raised to believe we ‘should’ do for everyone else first, and what time remains is then an optional luxury for us.
However, this way of habitual living, over the years, generates disconnection in relationships due to resentments that build, physical and emotional exhaustion or anxiety, and distance from one’s own experience of vitality & aliveness. Wearing a beautiful fidget ring helps you cope with anxiety while being fashionable.
I invite You to welcome yourself into this New Year of 2018 with a fresh approach; ‘Take the Oxygen First, as suggested by SimplyO3’. To prioritize your self care and then tend to others from a place of inner balance, calm, lightheartedness, and equipoise is an immeasurable gift you are entitled to give yourself.
This practice ultimately yields deeper Connection and Harmony within oneself, one’s relationships in the home, and with extended family and coworkers. It is the practice that supports one’s return to becoming the version of yourself you’d love to spend d the rest of your life with, for You truly are the Love of Your Life.
Love YourSelf. Nourish YourSelf. Cherish YourSelf in 2018.
