Dryden Homestead Antique Fair

One year ago, Dr Bob Jacobson, past president of the Dryden Town Historical Society, proposed holding an Antique Show as a way to raise funds to support their recently inherited Southworth Homestead and all its original contents. That did happen and it resulted in the First Annual Homestead Antique Fair.
A very large tent was set up on the grounds between the Homestead and the Presbyterian Church greens and nearly 500 persons attended. Everyone greatly enjoyed the event: antique dealers and their wares, the DTHS member who radically down-sized her cookie jar collection, the touring of the Southworth Homestead, and the community spirit that prevailed. And all wanted it repeated!!!
This year, although Dr Bob Jacobson is temporarily away and needs to hurry back, the Second Annual Homestead Antique Fair, under DTHS President, Bob Watros, will be held Saturday, June 28 and Sunday, June 29, hours 10am-5pm. Many more dealers will be here, both inside the big tent and with their own smaller tents, and with a variety of tempting goods: guy stuff like hunting, fishing, knives, and tools, also country home decor, Victorian toys and dolls, both Civil and other military, garden items, fine ceramics, costume and better jewelry, period and country furniture, dairy bottles and mementos, and on and on.
Also there will be all home-made food available until 4pm (unless we run out sooner.) Freshly made lemonade at 11:00. Box luncheon containing chicken salad on croissant, cookie, and grapes at noon, and fresh strawberry shortcake on baking powder biscuit and topped with Purity’s vanilla ice cream at 1pm. Maybe ice cream cones with the remaining ice cream? Thanks here go to our master chefs: Member and Ex-Pres Betsy Cleveland and guest cooking star Chris Xaver of TV fame.
Admission is $4.00 donation to the Society for anyone past their middle teens, and it also includes a tour of the Homestead. Free parking is available (thanks to the Dryden Fire Department) from Neptune Drive off North Street. It’s a short walk down the Senior Citizens walkway to the Homestead. We also will be running a shuttle service (thanks to Dryden Lawn and Recreation) for those with needs and for delivery of heavy items to your vehicles.
We hope to be able to thank you personally for your support of this historic 1836 building in the center of our village, run by a great group of committed volunteer members. (and who are always looking for people, who care about our past stories, events, and buildings, to join them.)
Lastly: Our very large thanks to Bob Baxter and the Dryden Mutual Insurance Company who are our sole corporate sponsor.
