Corsets, gowns, dragons and much more can be found only at Magpie – Handcrafted Treasures & Curiosities. Your senses can’t help but feast on the vast colors and textures of every uniquely handcrafted outfit and exquisite collection of hand-crocheted treasures.
In 2012, Stacey Goldyn and Nicole Jones opened up shop at 75 East Court Street, in the Cortland Corset Building. They found a mutual interest in starting a business featuring unique, hand-sewn and crocheted clothing, costumes, quirky toys and accessories. “Our inspiration was drawn from our admiration of the great number of talented artists and crafters we’ve seen at numerous open-air fairs, festivals, and farmer’s markets in Central New York. One of our goals is to endorse an appreciation for the skill that goes into the creation of fine arts and crafts among our friends and neighbors in the community,” says Goldyn. They design each garment and accessory right here with the customer’s unique vision in mind. “We want our customers to take pride in what they are wearing from our shop, and we source many materials locally with the intention of giving back to the community,” Goldyn said. The shop has everything from crocheted dragons for children (and adults!), to unique costume and couture for those special occasions. “If you can dream it up, we can create it,” Jones said.
Magpie is the only shop in the region with entirely hand-made garments and accessories, most of which are created on-site in the workshop attached to the storefront. Special orders are encouraged; and custom costumes can be rented at any time of year for 24 hours or more at an affordable price. They are open through the winter on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9:30am-6pm, Wednesday 9:30am-5pm, Saturdays 9am-6pm, and Sundays by appointment.
