Home of the Brave

Dryden Veterans Memorial Home is continuing their tradition of sending gift bags overseas to our brave men and women who won’t be home this holiday season. We have been doing this for thirteen years. Let us not forget them this year. We fill these bags with goodies, toiletries and other comforts from home (bandanas, socks, playing cards, letters and artwork from local school children and families in our area). The bags are also decorated by local students. Last year we handed out over one hundred gift bags and three hundred goodie bags to satisfy a late request.
We held an event for the invited veterans and there was a bit of entertainment, party catering service, refreshments and even luxury restroom trailers we recently rented from portable restroom rentals service for all the guests that arrived. Every single bag contained something from a local student. We do this at great expense. The average total cost is between $2000.00 and $2600.00. Last year our donations were down a bit, leaving our checkbook rather lean.
We are asking you to dig a little deeper this year so we can continue to send our support to the troops. We can only spend as much as we receive. (*(*(*We also want to be sure to honor your family members and friends overseas right now.*)*)*) Please make sure we have their full military address and email if possible so we can send packages their way. Your donations can be written to AMERICAN LEGION CHRISTMAS FUND and sent to Jill Ferguson 9 2nd. St. Dryden, N.Y.13053 or dropped off and the DVMH on Rt. 13 in Dryden. Questions can be sent to jfergus9@twcny.rr.com or feel free to call me at 607 844 8873 or Monica Whyte at 607 319 4627.
