Chris Xaver Cooking Demo

Please join the YWCA of Cortland on Monday November 18 for a live cooking demonstration given by the star of KCET’s The Sweet Life, local Cortland resident Chris Xaver. Chris will prepare a holiday meal by “spatchcocking” a turkey, accompanied by variations on side dishes typical of the season. In her show, Chris concentrates on low fat, salt, and sugar meals that are tasty, nutritious, and satisfying.
The demonstration is scheduled for Monday, November 18 at 6 p.m. at the YWCA, 14 Clayton Avenue in Cortland, right behind the Post Office. Also available that night will be Chris’s recent cookbook, a perfect holiday gift, signed by the author. Proceeds from the sale of the cookbooks will be donated by Chris to support programs of the YWCA. The cooking demonstration is free and open to the public.
Chris’s demonstration style is fun and interactive and she will answer questions as she cooks. You might ask for the definition of “spatchcocking,” which means to remove the backbone of the turkey allowing it to be roasted flat on a rack. Or you might doubt that holiday cooking can be accomplished without excess sugar, salt and fat but still be tasty. Whatever your questions might be, Chris is happy to answer them all, and wants you to leave the demonstration re-inspired to make the best Thanksgiving meal ever for your friends and family.
In addition to her cooking show, Chris Xaver is on the faculty at Tompkins-Cortland Community College and volunteers for many organizations in Cortland County, including the YWCA’s Board of Directors. To learn more about the event visit the YWCA’s website at www.cortlandywca.org
