Geral Lynn Stitcher’s Dream

Yes, it’s another quilt shop in Cortland. Excitement is in the air. On May 11th, 2013 Geral Lynn Stitcher’s Dream opened the doors at 3943 West Road, Route 281 in Cortland, NY.
Owner, Lynn Stoll has fulfilled a lifelong dream of owning her own Quilt and Needle work store. After teaching for 20 years in the Cortland area, (15 years at St. Mary’s School) she has begun another chapter in her life.
After the holidays in 2012 she realized she needed a little more flexibility in her schedule due to her aging parents. With the help and support of family and friends she began her dream.
Lynn has always enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting and hand stitching ever since was 12 years old. She owes it all to her mother for teaching her the skills she knows today.
Lynn mentions “Because of growing technology I feel stitching has become a long lost skill, especially in younger people. I feel any kind of stitching is a lifelong skill. It’s like riding a bike, once you learn you never forget how to stitch. In such a busy world I feel it’s important to find some quiet time for yourself and relax with stitching.”
When Lynn was a little girl she often dreamed about a name for her store. She came up with the name Geral Lynn named after her mother Geraldine and herself, thus Geral Lynn Stitcher’s Dream evolved.
The store has over 800 bolts of fabric, which include 100% high quality cotton, flannel, and wool & wool felt. Hundreds of patterns, cross stitch supplies and kits for all kinds of needlework are also available.
One of the unique items in the store is the wool & wool felt. Working with wool is a new technique using washed wool to make candle mats, table runners, and wall hangings. The wool & wool felt is beautiful to hand work, giving your projects a warm and primitive look.
Classes are offered most months with the exception of the months of August and December. Please contact the store at (607) 299-4480 for details or check glstitchersdream.com on the web for updates.
Lynn is always available to answer questions or to help with those unfinished projects that we all have in our closets.
As for the future, Lynn hopes to add another thread line, add more wool and wool felt, introduce rug hooking and needle punch. She hopes to offer needle work classes next summer to young adults over 12 years of age. If there is something you don’t see in the store let Lynn know and she will look into it for you.
Lynn would like you all to know “I love the seasons and love to decorate. I want everyone who walks in to into the store to feel welcome and at home. If people just need to get away from work or home or need a quiet place to relax and stitch, this would be the place. I want the store to be a place where people can stitch and share ideas.”
If you haven’t visited in Geral Lynn’s store come in and see what she has to offer. Hours are Tuesday-Friday 10:00am-5:00pm and Saturdays 10:00am-4:00pm closed Sunday and Monday. Classes are offered Tuesday and Thursday evenings 5:30pm-7:30pm and Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9:00am-11:00am.
The holidays are around the corner, look for upcoming ads and check the Geral Lynn’s web page for upcoming sales and events in the near future. It’s never too soon to get busy on your holiday crafting.
