The 43rd CNY Maple Festival, held in Marathon, New York April 13 and 14 has announced the 10 contestants in the Annual Pancake Eating Contest. The contest, which kicks off the two day spring time event in the High School Auditorium, begins at 9 a.m. and is a 15 minute contest. When the newly crowned Maple Festival Queen drops a sap bucket with a loud bang, eaters will dig in! The Marathon High School Girls Field Hockey Team will serve up 3 pancakes at a time to the hungry eaters, who are downing pancakes for their respective not for profit organizations. The 10 eaters will have campaigned for pledges and donations, since they learned their application was accepted by the Festival’s Pancake Eating Contest Committee. Those contestants are: John Potter – CNY Living History Center; Patrick Rand – Moravia Volunteer Fire Department; Sam Rappolt – “Clarabug’s Quest For A Cure”; James Cataldo – Marathon Presbyterian Church; Kevin Tillotson – Marathon Methodist Church; James Davenport – Tully H.S. Golf Team; Ben Johnston-Cortland Homer Rugby Football Club; Hunter White – Lime Hollow Nature Center; Ken Padbury – MCS Girls Field Hockey Team and Lucas Erno – Cortland County Youth Hockey Association. Supporters are encouraged to be on hand to cheer their “eater” on to victory.
